The Lightfoot Days Sunday Service takes place at St. Paul's United Church in Orillia on Sunday, November 3 at 10:25 am. This is the very venue where Gordon Lightfoot's illustrious career began.
This service will showcase the Orillia Community Children's Choir, directed by Julia Johnston, as they perform a new composition co-created by Julia Johnston and Dan McCoy. This innovative piece harmoniously blends the voices of the Orillia Children’s Choir with a historic early recording of a 12-year-old Gordon Lightfoot singing in the St. Paul’s Choir. This unique arrangement enables us to experience the illusion of Gordon performing "live" alongside Julia’s Children’s Choir.
We will also have a special video message from Liona Boyd, the “First Lady of the Guitar”.
Gordon Lightfoot played a pivotal role in providing her with one of the most significant opportunities early in her career when she opened for him during his tour in the 1970s.
Also, you will all get to hear a newly composed hymn in memory of the late Reverend Karen Hilfman-Milson; a friend of Gordon's.
Additionally, the St. Paul's Senior Choir, the Orillia Children’s Choir, and the entire congregation will join together to perform the early Gordon Lightfoot song "Rich Man's Spiritual" (1966).
