The Fire Still Burns - Saturday May 17, 2025
The Gojijing Friendship Circle presents The Fire Still Burns: An Evening of Song and Story.
One night only – staged at St. Paul's Centre in Orillia, Saturday, May 17 at 7 p.m. Doors at 6:30 p.m.
This free event brings together gifted musicians to the stage. Don’t miss Red n Blue, Guy Monague, and Jakob Pearce Music, along with Elder and storyteller John Rice.
Storytelling and music have always been at the heart of Indigenous culture, carrying history, wisdom, and resilience through generations.
The Gojijing Friendship Circle and St. Paul's Centre invite you to The Fire Still Burns — a powerful evening celebrating the strength of Indigenous voices through song and story.
Jeff Monague (Myiingan Minonaakwhe) will guide the evening as MC. At its core, The Fire Still Burns is a testament to the enduring power of Indigenous traditions. Stories hold deep teachings, reminding us of our responsibilities to the land, to each other, and to the generations that follow. Through music, voices rise in unity, carrying messages of hope, resistance, and renewal.
The Gojijing Friendship Circle is a growing community of leaders committed to fostering truth, reconciliation, and right relations across the greater Gojijing bioregion. This event is a reflection of that mission — a space where Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members can come together to listen, learn, and share in the spirit of connection.
Join us for this special evening. Admission is free, and donations are welcome. More than just a performance, this gathering is an opportunity to experience the living legacy of Indigenous storytelling and song—a fire that continues to burn brightly.

The Orillia Silver Band Presents: Movies and More!
The Orillia Silver Band would love to invite you to an evening of musical entertainment from the world of the cinema. Our Movies and More Concert takes place on Saturday, June 07, 2025, 7:00 pm at the St. Paul’s Centre in Orillia.
Selections include such favourites as highlights from the recent James Bond remake of “Casino Royale”, the beautiful love theme from “Out of Africa” and the towering overture by John Williams to the 1970’s western “The Cowboys”. The band invites you to enjoy the musical skills of some of its own soloists on this evening as well. Trumpeters Robin Watson and Debbie Silverthorne will play a great arrangement of a Count Basie tune called Duet. And Michele McCall, the band’s flugelhornist, will present Winton Marsalis’ version of the Hoagy
Carmichael tune Skylark.
Other cinematic fun included the main theme from the ever-popular film Forrest Gump, the flying theme from E.T., and the rousing victory theme from the Rocky series. Another bit of John Williams brilliance is the march from the war-comedy film 1941.
Beyond the music itself, the concert will include simultaneous projected pictures and video clips of movies where the music was used. This will take us all down “memory lane” as we remember the thrill of the complete cinematic experiences.
Please put this exciting concert on your calendar. Your help and encouragement of the band is always greatly appreciated!

Film Screening: "Where Olive Trees Weep"
Where: St Paul's Centre ( 62 Peter St N., Orillia)
When: Sunday April 27th, 2PM
Suggested Donation: $10 - $15
Theme: From Turtle Island to Palestine Part 1 of 2 - Conversations on Settler Colonialism and Genocide: Impacts on our Land, Health and the Environment
Guest Speakers: Local Palestinian and First Nation speakers
Documentary website: https://whereolivetreesweep.com/
Description:
"Where Olive Trees Weep" offers a searing window into the struggles and resilience of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation. It explores themes of loss, trauma, and the quest for justice.
We follow, among others, Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish, grassroots activist Ahed Tamimi, and Israeli journalist Amira Hass. We witness Dr. Gabor Maté offering trauma-healing work for a group of women who have been tortured in Israeli prisons.
Ancient landscapes bear deep scars, having witnessed the brutal reality of ancestral land confiscation, expulsions, imprisonment, home demolitions, water deprivation, and denial of basic human rights. Yet, through the veil of oppression, we catch a glimpse of resilience—deep roots that have carried the Palestinian people through decades of darkness and shattered lives.
This emotional journey bares the humanity of the oppressed while grappling with the question: what makes the oppressor so ruthlessly blind to its own cruelty?

A Skydiggers Christmas w/ special guest Daniel Greaves from the Watchmen
Orillia - catch A Skydiggers Christmas on December 5th at St. Paul's Centre, with support from Daniel Greaves of The Watchmen.
For over 25 years Skydiggers’ friends and fans have reunited over the holidays at Toronto’s Legendary Horseshoe Tavern to celebrate the season to the soundtrack of the band’s distinctive rootsy Christmas tunes and Skydiggers’ classics, and this year they’re taking it on the road. “We’ve realized that the most moving moments of the season are more than just expressions of glad tidings and comfort and joy,” says Skydigger Andy Maize. “That there are moments of melancholy, regret and truth that are, in their own way, as much a part of the Christmas experience as any joyous carol. We want to put on a show that both celebrates the season while leaving room for quieter, more personal moments.
